Dear all,
The Rumbelow and Descendants weekend is at the end of the month. Progress continues as the Committee firms up the program for the weekend of 29/30 March.
Tickets
Attendance is pleasing. At present there are some 100 or so registered to attend the functions planned for the weekend. If you haven’t purchased your ticket, for our planning the sooner the better, please. The Encounter Bay Football Club Function Room caters for 200 (in comfort).
Event Information / Program
All information regarding the Event, Program, Exhibition and Histories are available on the Rumbelow.net website. Everyone interested is invited to review this central source and provide updates or additional items if necessary.
Sunday Program
An addition to the Sunday program, following the Cairn Ceremony, is the Peter Rumbelow will conduct a walking tour of the Peter Matthews Exhibition at the Encounter Bay football Club. The talk will commence at 1.00pm on Sunday.
Memorabilia Display
Relatives and guests are welcome to display memorabilia or artifacts concerning Rumbelow and descendants on Sunday 30th March. Items are to be arranged on tables provided. Guest are encouraged to include label and provide a note about the items significant and providence (if able).
Should you have memorabilia such as Certificates of Awards, awarded by the Government, The Royal Humane Society, or similar, please consider displaying it with the Peter Matthews Collection. An accompanying photograph of the presentation, if available, would be appreciated.
It is anticipated major valor awards will be displayed alongside the Peter Matthews Collection. Other items may be displayed on designated tables with the clubrooms. Valor Awards, once provided, can be photographed and included on the Rumbelow.net website. Once recorded they are available for all to see and remain indefinitely.

Prestonjee Bomanjee 1854 Artwork by John Ford OAM
John Ford our artist for the 2005 150 Reunion and painter of the Front Cover of “The Rumbelows of Encounter Bay”, will be in residence. He is producing a painting of the “Pestonjee Bomanjee” the barque which conveyed our forebears to Port Adelaide.

Victor Harbor Primary School
Matt leaves no stone unturned. His enquiry with the Victor Harbor Primary School, regarding Rumbelow House, one of the four houses within the school, has an enquiry for students to visit the Peter Matthews Exhibition on Friday 28 March.
The VHPS wishes to appoint a representative of the Rumbelow Descendants in an advisory capacity.
In Memorium Pte. Frank Rumbelow - (1885 - 1918)
Died in Action – Western Front 1917
Frank Harris Rumbelow was born on 26th March 1885. He enlisted in the 48th Battalion, Australian Infantry, AIF, in August 1915. Frank had 12 months’ military experience with the 22nd Light Horse prior to joining the 1st AIF and in January 1916 he embarked on the HMAT Borda from Adelaide to sail to Suez. He then joined the 48th Battalion and sailed to Marseilles in June 1916 to join the British Expeditionary Force.
On 7th August 1916 he was wounded in action in France and admitted to a field hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. He was later transferred to England and went to a hospital in Birmingham. He was discharged from hospital in October 1916, convalesced, and then returned to France in December.
On 12th October 1917 he was reported missing in action, and this was later upgraded to killed in action in April 1918 aged 23. He is named in Belgium at the Buttes New British Cemetery, Polygon Wood, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen.
Frank was posthumously awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
Frank Rumbelow shares the same birthdate as the Event Secretary Matt Rumbelow.
