I have included some information about our hope for preservation & restoration.
Alas, the Mens shed decided not to go ahead with assistance; The grants that we applied, including the National Maritime Museum, were not granted. The tarp that we planned to cover the Rambler with, and had the finance, ended up not going ahead due to it being on council property and hence requiring a huge amount of OH&S expense and paperwork.
Sadly, we have not been able to proceed. Rick our chair recently looked at an electric fence around it to deter the cows from rubbing against it and again was swamped with OH&S council requirements.

Don Rumbelow and Kay Ewens on behalf of the extended Rumbelow family as owners of the old fishing boat "Rambler" hereby give custodianship to the National Trust of South Australia. We believe that the Rambler plays a very important part in the early fishing history of this area and should be retained for future generations. When the Rambler has been made sound it would be ideally suited to being placed in a playground or reserve.
The Rambler was built 1875 at Birkenhead for Malen Rumbelow, he and his family pioneered the fishing industry in waters around Encounter Bay and Kangaroo Island. They were also instrumental in organising and sailing in the New Years day regatta held in and around Granite Island. The State Government also commissioned Malen on board the Rambler to collect the election voting boxes from Kangaroo Island and transport them to Adelaide.

To Whom it May Concern
As the Acting Chair of the Economic Development & Tourism Committee and a councillor for the Cty or Victor Harbor Council, I would like to endorse mine and the committee's full support to the Save the Rambler Project.
This boat is the last piece of historical maritime history in the area that has ties to the Rumbelow's family and our 18/19 century fishing industry.
It is my belief that by preserving the boat and displaying it for the public it will act as a focal point not just for historical records but also assisting our heritage and tourism promotion in general.
The community support that this project is developing and receiving comes from a wide range of people. In my opinion it will assist in spin offs for the diverse number of community groups that will be involved.
The Save the Rambler group is a very dedicated and energetic group that will bring this project to fruition and any assistance that your organisation can provide will be gratefully appreciated, not just by the group but by the wider community.
Please feel free to phone me if you wish to discuss this further on 0451 140 543

Dear Patricla,
At Terry Andrew's request I investigated the costs for relocating the hull of the "Rambler" from the old dump site to the proposed site of the new Men's Shed.
I came up with a budget estimate of $10,000 + GST. This cost is made up as follows
$3500 site preparation at Men's Shed - levelling and topping site and access track with rubble as a working surface and to provide suitable access for the low loader.
$1500 Crane lift at both ends.
$3500 Extendable low loader hire Including 2 pilot vehicles, permits, establishment and disestablishment.
$1500 Miscellaneous possible sign and / or wire shifting reroute, possible machine hire to position low loader at dump end.
$10,000+ GST Total
