The portraits were commissioned and bequeathed to the City of Victor Harbor by Mr Peter Matthews in the 1980's. They were painted by William Needs and Peter’s younger son, Andrew Matthews.
Andrew Matthews was born in Victor Harbor, South Australia in 1957. He began working as an artist in Victor Harbor before releasing his first self-help book, illustrated with cartoons, called Being Happy! in 1988. It has sold 7 million copies and been published in 42 languages. He is now a full-time writer and speaker, having written and illustrated 11 self-help books. Mr Matthews and his wife Julie — also his publisher — now live in Queensland

Died peacefully 15th June, Aged 97 Years. Beloved husband of Shirley (Deceased).
Loving father of Judy, Bill, John and Robert.
Grandfather of Michelle, Steven, Nicole, Shawule, Tarik, Hannibal, Jaecinta, Courtney, Bridgette, Sophie, William and Amelia.
Great grandfather of Stella, Karla, Ebony, Theodore, Dexter, Kiki and George.
With Shirley again for walks on the beach and painting plein air. Forever remembered.
