SA artist John Ford’s original composition of the Rumbelow’s Fish Shed, featuring the Rambler and Ferret with the Bluff at Encounter Bay, South Australia in the late 1800’s.
"I never realized when I undertook to put this information into book form what a consuming task it would be.
I am fascinated by the bravery of our forebears. I can’t imagine sailing from England to Australia under the primitive circumstances experienced. The loss of children through sickness and accident saddens me, as do the deaths of so many of the fishing fraternity at sea.
The number of family members who served in both world wars and the records of their bravery make us all proud. The community service by the men and women in the family over the years is recognized and applauded.
It is unfortunate that this book was not written twenty five years ago when so many of the fourth generation were still with us. They could have remembered the personalities and the stories that have not been recorded.
The first five generations of the family in Australia are covered in this book and the challenge is issued for others to take up the story and create a similar record of following generations. If there are noteworthy events in the lives of your ancestors that are not included in this book, please accept my apologies, but we could only include what we were told.
I hope that you share my pride in the achievements of our family."
