2024 Family Luncheon
Perhaps an organised “musical chairs” to get people talking to people they don’t know!
Well done to everyone for the planning as it would be an enormous task. Looking forward to 2025.
I found the overall experience most enjoyable with great opportunities to get to know many distant relatives and hear stories. I am ever so grateful to Lesley for the mountain of information that she has handed to me to add to. It has excited me to continue with my family history. I am grateful to those who organised it...thank you.
Hope there will be updated books available, as I missed out first time round.
"What a great day at the Encounter Bay Football Club. How great to meet new & old friends & relations and have some really great chats. Many, many thanks to Matt, Don & Lesley and others who contributed to the organisation of the day. Mary George would be so pleased to know that her books, which she so carefully collated in her research, were gratefully accepted by Rumbelow descendants."
Such an amazing day....so wonderful to meet many relatives....looking forward to next year...looking forward to nurturing and adding to such amazing history that has lovingly been created by Mary
The Footscray/ Cakebread family story is that the heroine of Paving the Way, Petrel, was based on Caroline (Rumbelow) Cakebread. Apparently the Newland family were not that enthusiastic to acknowledge that Simpson was ever keen on the likes of those Rumbelows. The story went that as Simpson was dying Caroline visited him. He leaned over and whispered, “Yes, you were Petrel”. Any confirmations or denials of this story?
